This series of monotype prints pulled from plexiglass is my self portrait of 2021. As a flower, the protea is part of one of the oldest flower families, but its mythological meaning is of change and transformation. As a woman working in the creative arts industry, I have watched work ebb and flow with economies, style, and trends. This series speaks to my constant need to change in a world, despite 2020 and Covid 19, that asks what is new. These fresh and loose prints are created using oil paints on plexiglass with different elements for mark making being incorporated into the process including found materials, plants, and household items. These pieces are all about the process of making marks – some of which will be invisible in the print, but that represent the process of transformation.
