I grew up on the banks of Lake Athabasca in Northern Saskatchewan, a stunningly beautiful and fierce lake. Summers at lakes as well as sailing BC’s coastal waters and offshore have cemented my deep connection to water.
Water’s surface both reflects and leads the eye down. Its colours change with the light, wind, and geography. Patterns mesmerize as boats carve into it and wind teases its surface. Water sustains us and captures our hearts. It inspires, can strike fear into us and is essential for our survival. And is endlessly fascinating.
In The Deep Blue Sea, I wanted to capture colour, depth and movement. I wanted to give a sense of the ocean's enormity and its mystery.
