About the Artwork

Inspiration is a broad theme in the work of any artist, and there are many directions I could have gone with this. But looking around my studio my eye alighted on this messy little painting that has been a favourite of mine since I painted it a couple years back. The subject is my grandson Kirin, who I’ve painted many times indeed… but more tellingly, has been my painting (and sewing, and reading, and most recently basketball) buddy since he first could hold a palette knife. Inspiration can be a mutual affair.

Oiseau, AFCA

Argenta, British Columbia

Oiseau lives and paints in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. While she focuses primarily on portraiture and the figure, plein air landscape painting is also an important part of her practice and inspiration.

"In painting as in life, whatever distance you travel just opens up further vistas for exploration. Subtleties, bold statements, complexities of relationships, colour, colour, colour. I wish I could paint forever!"
