As the title suggests, this is my second experience painting this particular gentleman. My impetus for re-engaging with the subject was, appropriately for the theme of this exhibition, the strong, simple volumes – as well as the gorgeous colour. This time round, I chose to really simplify the surrounding space in order to foreground the figure itself. I find him a very pleasant companion in the room, holding his own space so beautifully and so self-contained.

"In painting as in life, whatever distance you travel just opens up further vistas for exploration. Subtleties, bold statements, complexities of relationships, colour, colour, colour. I wish I could paint forever!"
