“Greenfly” is the third painting in my current series, called Dark House. I am in awe of the body (and then also the psyche) as a container, a house for living, where no light enters yet incredible processes silently happen. The figurative paintings in the series employ flowing symbolism to investigate woman-states pulled straight from a fairytale dream, where a captivating and somewhat haunting insect-woman transacts the rich business of being. Here, the relatable pixie-like Greenfly is fending off the admonitions of Superego. A special twist in this painting is the cameo appearance of a dear painter friend and mentor as the higher self with its starry crown. And Greenfly herself? My talented model Celeste admits to giving names to insects…

"In painting as in life, whatever distance you travel just opens up further vistas for exploration. Subtleties, bold statements, complexities of relationships, colour, colour, colour. I wish I could paint forever!"
