I am in possession of a treasure: a file of photographs from a study trip to Italy back in 2010. I started looking through them this winter, with more than a little nostalgia. What struck me was the way the forms tended to stack up against each other; that, and the beautiful feeling of light. I got out the (virtual) scissors and started cropping down tightly around groups of faces in street scenes, until I had dozens of compositions waiting for the brush. This one offers a glimpse into a glorious street pageant in the Italian city of Assisi.
