About the Artwork

Well over a hundred years ago William "Billy" Johnston built rowboats in Rosseau for Muskoka's summer visitors. Many rowboats. A few have survived.
I discovered this refinished one in an unlikely spot, floated on a galvanized lake outside Mr Johnston's original home. Varnish is interesting to depict. Finding multiple green reflections at high noon in the of the yellow cyprus wood while following the plank lines against the red granite stone a painting delight.
