Sitting above this storm beach on the Irish Sea is a 16th century tower house built by The Green Knight (Fitzgerald). The storm beach has been created by an angry sea, churning and tossing up the rocks time after time, smoothing out their edges. The stones from this beach were used to create many of Ireland's ogham stones, monuments engraved with ogham, an early Irish language. Despite Cromwell's attempts to destroy it, much of Minard Castle withstood explosions at all four corners and has survived to this day, reminding us of the Irish will to survive.
