"Okanagan Spring Melody #2" is from my Okanagan Harmony Series and was inspired by my walks along the foothills of Lake Country’s Spion Kop Mountain in the Okanagan.
I began this series in 2000 and continue to explore it. Working in impasto I apply thick acrylic paint using a palette knife over a coloured under painting, allowing the underlying colour to peak through.
This scene highlights majestic Ponderosa Pine trees, golden Arrow Leaf Balsam Root flowers and wild Saskatoon trees in blossom among the wild grasses so typical of the Okanagan terrain. Okanagan Lake can be seen in the background together with the beautiful mountains of West Kelowna, before recently being devastated by wild fires.
This painting is included in my Okanagan Harmony Series, as a testimony of the glorious natural land that once was but now disappearing, and the graceful harmony of praise it once sang.
