"A Change in Weather" is from my Okanagan Harmony Series inspired by my walks along the foothills of Lake Country’s Spion Kop Mountain.
I began this series in 2000 and continue to explore it. Working in impasto I apply thick acrylic paint using a palette knife over a coloured under painting, allowing the underlying colour to peak through.
My original intention for this series was to interpret the feel of the land and its natural beauty but in 2008 this goal changed as the land began to be developed into a large residential neighborhood. I then felt an urgency to record the land before it disappeared forever. This painting is now a testimony of the glorious land that once was, but will be no more, and the graceful harmony of praise it once sang.
