Emily’s is about memory and place. It is a painting about how small things, like the scent of wild roses, can anchor us to the people we love. My grandmother had rose bushes behind her house. As a kid, I loved to stop and smell them when we visited. After she passed, we would still visit my dad’s hometown and stay in her home and those same roses were still there. They bloomed year after year.
This painting isn’t just about the flowers; it’s about that feeling—how something so simple can carry the weight of love, loss, and connection. The softness of the watercolour reflect that mix of beauty and nostalgia, like a memory just on the edge of fading. Emily’s is a quiet moment, a reminder of how the places and people we come from stay with us in ways we don’t always expect.
