About the Artwork

My current process involves layers of paint, markmaking, occasionally adding collage until one or multiples of figures show themselves and then the painting tells me where to go. That's clearly what happened here. She was sitting at attention, she and her hat the bright spots in the burnished richness of her surround.

Laurie Martz

Comox, British Columbia

Laurie is a Comox abstract painter whose love of
the mountains/oceans/land and those who share it
infuses her art. Her work shows the hiding and the reveal, coming from the core that defines her. It tells of her interior landscape, reflecting the natural world whether recognisable or obscured.

"I share my work to give joy and beauty to others, and to let them see me. My art often reflects themes and questions of the world... layered in complexity, seen and interpreted with a personal filter.

I hope people see in it what they need, to enrich their world."
