This painting features a lion set against an ancient stone relief. The lioness is painted with thin layers of oil in a realistic fashion to enhance the softness of her fur and texture. The Lioness's pose is intentionally calm and relaxed in counterpoint to the raging lion relief in the background. I wanted to juxtapose the real animal against the stone version which is stylized and stereotypical in its fierceness.

My creative process is an intuitive one...
I go where inspiration takes me, striving to release the need to control outcomes. My job as an artist is to step back and leave space for the character and personality of my subjects to inhabit the work.
