Painted from a study that was done en plein air (on location). It was cold and my feet were steadily placed in slush. I was glad for waterproof boots. I would not let the dull of winter dictate the colours I was going to paint. There was red in those trees somewhere and if you looked hard enough, pink. The river was dark and dirty, I think, laying there motionless but the reflections from the trees were priceless.
