While hiking East Sooke Park Trail in Sooke, BC, one passes knolls of yellow grasses and thick moss, luscious BC forest, and windswept coastal trees. Among these coastal trees is one of my favourites: the arbutus. Arbutus trees each grow in their own unique way, and I’ve been long fascinated with their twisted branches, rich coloured peeling bark, and their adventurous locations. This painting depicts just one of the many arbutus trees you will find along this hike, reaching towards the ocean and basking in the sunlight.
