Part of a series using distortion, playing with the surface of water. I like to paint flowing lines along with blocks of colour to create a dance of movement across the canvas. The underlying layers are important to the depth of the final work, to create levels of light, shade and reflected light in the watery surround.

Jane Rowlands is a representational artist working primarily in oils.
She is interested in the exploration of surfaces from unusual perspectives. Using distortion of light as it moves through water, she captures a moment of transition to reveal the obscured and create a story of play through the layers.
"This series of paintings tells a story of summertime play encapsulating humour and joy in a moment of respite.
I am interested in the exploration of surfaces and seeing two sides from unusual angles and to reveal the hidden. In this case, using distortion of light moving through water."
