Possibly my favorite flower, Irises stand tall in the garden, each blade of their sword-like leaves slicing through the air. Hidden beneath the earth for most of the year, their bulbs suddenly open to let forth a flourish of violets and blues, a dash of brilliant yellow, each petal gently covered in an ancient script of delicate veins.
