I used to play the cat’s cradle string game when I was a kid, and when I got older I read Kurt Vonnegut’s sci-fi book of the same name. In the book, a molecule called ice-nine is released into the environment, causing all the water in the world to freeze below 50 degrees Celsius. I wondered what a cityscape based on both the string game and the novel would look like. I painted a deserted city scene with geometric shapes reminiscent of the string game. But the painting wasn’t complete until I added one more element - a little cat,
