A washerwoman is alone at the water’s edge. She lives a hard life. Washing clothes by herself gives her a reprieve from the stressful situations at home. As she cleanses fabrics, she sings - singing our her pain, singing out the stories she tells herself of not being “good enough”, not being “pretty enough”, not being able to “please” others and so on until her mind is wrung clean of those negative stories. Singing and washing, washing and singing becomes a special meditation. This meditative act cleanses her mind, and her soul leaving her more refreshed and bright to better face the world she lives in with a renewed sense of hope, confidence and empowerment.
