Lee Gass
Heriot Bay, British Columbia
All while investigating wild hummingbird intelligence and winning national awards as an educational innovator, Lee Gass has been a life-long sculptor in stone and wood. He casts his stone and wood originals in series of bronzes at any scale.
He is fascinated by the shapes of things. Mountains. Valleys. Human and other living bodies, especially in motion through time, space, and circumstance. After more than 75 years of serious attention to these things, it is still a wonder to him how powerfully, and how beautifully, simple sets of simply curved surfaces can suggest but not specify in detail what they represent. His sculptures express that wonder, power, and beauty. They invite viewers to have their own experience of the work.
