The Northern Coastal Shores have an old habit: light arriving slowly, through layers. The Forest Bathing series comes out of that. Annette Arndt paints the forest not as a subject to be catalogued but as an atmosphere to be entered; mist working through standing timber, distance dissolving, the eye given permission to stop searching for edges.
Veiled in a Luminous Haze is that permission made large. Form recedes rather than resolves; the haze is not something obscuring the forest but the forest's own breath, held in the cool air and lit from within. The painting asks a slower kind of looking. Stand close and the washes separate into their layers; step back and they close again into weather.
The luminosity is built, not applied: many transparent passages of highly pigmented watercolour laid in sequence, with shimmered pigment catching the light as you move past so the mist appears to shift and settle. The result carries oil-like depth while keeping watercolour's air.
At roughly twenty-two by thirty inches, the work holds a wall the way a window does: quiet, but the room orients toward it.
