Peppered pavement
Flecked with flickering stars
slick with last night’s rain;
On a sidewalk space walk
A Rocketman in a yellow raincoat crouches,
scrutinizing each stone.
A cruel joke for the amateur rock collector.
On the edge of the asphalt abyss,
Dandelions burst through the cracks.
These sunny supernovas are proof, against all odds, that
Life finds a way.
Before humans grew up and looked to the stars,
We looked down underfoot.
