Maple Ridge, British Columbia
What drew me to watercolour (and continues to do so) is its fleeting immediacy; the fact that you have just one shot at it and that's it. If you try to control it, keep revisiting it or going over it again, and again, it gets muddy, overworked and dull; you screw it's up.
To me, watercolour painting has always been a parallel to life. Take your best shot at what you're presented with at the moment, accept the results, learn from it and move on; ideally applying what you learned to your next sketch. I seek an effect that reflects the quickness of time and something that captures just the big shapes; the things that are important. The detail is irrelevant.
