Sharon McDonell is a mostly self-taught oil painter based in South Glengarry County. She began her formal art studies at Queen’s University before earning a BA in Film Studies, which led to a 30-year career as a costumer in the Canadian film industry. Throughout this period, she sustained an active painting practice. An Exhibiting Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, McDonell’s work has evolved from representational realism toward a more interpretive, impressionistic approach. Her paintings frequently focus on arboreal forms and forest interiors, employing layered brushwork, a restrained yet luminous palette, and close attention to structure and surface. Through these elements, her work investigates themes of time, endurance, and transformation as embodied in the natural landscape.
