Sylvia is drawn to painting the landscape from her own compositions. Her work ranges from realistic to purely abstract and she uses a variety of media depending on where her intuition leads her. Responding to the mood of the image, and what is happening on the canvas, she creates layers of paint and mark making which gives the surface a history, depth and texture. The process of abstraction allows her to express the atmosphere and sentiment she feels in the subject that she composed. Her inspiration comes mainly from her personal experiences in nature. She encourages the viewer to get lost in the rhythm, shapes, line, and color and to feel a sense of freedom from the expressive mark making.
