I painted this 'plein air' while out with an artist friend in Mill Bay on southern Vancouver Island. It was a fabulous day on the beach. Painting quickly, which is always the case when outdoors with shifting light, it was a pleasure to be there, with birds singing in the trees behind us, seals slapping their flippers just offshore, and a heron swooping in to settle on a nearby piling. There was even a salamander rustling in the shrubs behind us. Oh what a glorious day!
