About the Artwork

This is a second piece in a series called Flowing moods. Each piece with this technique is a surprise. I sprinkle graphite powder on the paper then spray water on it with a hose. The result is a series of marks that are never the same. Within these marks, I then look for an image. In this case, I found a face with a very determined look. I searched for a way to portray that emotion by adding shading, more lines or redefining areas in water soluble graphite or charcoal. The end result was a very moody and this time, scary piece. The mood portrayed makes you look twice.

Doris Charest, AFCA

St. Albert, Alberta

Nature and the world around her inspire Doris. Mixed media is Doris’ favorite form of painting. She loves exploring textures, shapes, and a more contemporary look. Art has become a voyage of discovery and she follows it to see where it will bring her.

"Capturing memories in a way that a camera cannot, my paintings invite you to explore the subject; quietly discovering what is really there. Each painting is a story waiting to happen"
