If I think about what drives me as an artist, it would have to be above all else, the mysteries held in the subjects I chose to paint. Seldom do I know in advance who or what my next subject will be, nor how I will approach it. Instead, I prefer let the subject reveal itself, speaking to me in a way that compels me towards it, as if to lend it a voice beyond that moment in time.
The idea for 'West Coast Interlude' was originally conceived while out plein air painting in Saanichton Bay, Victoria.

Hugh is a self-taught artist residing in Victoria, British Columbia. His goal is to use artistic expression to capture moments in time that tell a story, inspire, and resonate with people.
"So much of my journey artistically has to do with where I have travelled, and the amazing people I have met along the way. These are the ingredients that inspire me to create. Without them, there would be no story to tell."
