Gestural mark making on a blank canvas revealed that the bronze series of laughing sculptures by artist Yue Minjun “A-maze-ing Laughter” in Vancouver, and it’s inscription “May this sculpture inspire laughter, playfulness, and joy in all who experience it” inspired this artwork. An assortment of unrelated strangers, a few seagulls, and 2 parachutists , evolved over the course of the painting to join in the joyful, synergistic group energy - a timeless moment of possibility.

My addiction is to the magical state of direct experience, when the thinking mind leaves me alone, and I am free to discover new possibilities and express the joy and vitality of some aspect of life through painting. I am also inspired to stimulate this in others.
