As a Canadian, the novelty of walking through history as I negotiate the narrow and twisting streets of the inner cities in Europe never gets old. The character and charm of the cities are evident and expressed in the architecture. The warmth and contrast of the red roofs and pale plaster walls of southern Europe is a favourite subject of mine.

Carol Loeb, SFCA
Roseneath, Ontario
Collectively, Carol’s work is a contrast of the engineered or built environment to the wilderness. She works mainly in acrylics, usually blocking in dark and mid-tone areas first then adding thin layers of saturated colour to create luminosity and depth. The resulting realism goes beyond photographic representation of place.
"To capture these emotive qualities of the subject and have the image go beyond the purely representational, I often use contrasting saturated, complimentary colours to create a vibrancy and emphasis that goes beyond the pretty picture."
