I was attracted to this scene by the fact that it was such an ordinary part of summer life in Toronto and there was so much to see. I appreciated the juxtaposition of nature and urban. I loved the irony in the amount of confusion created by the amount of signage used to try to help pedestrians and drivers navigate the construction zone safely. I tried to capture my feelings about this scene using a combination of acrylic paint and collage. I chose to play with the buildings in this piece by using unconventionally coloured papers. I added to the nature component of the greenery in this scene by incorporating papers with natural prints such as birch bark and wooden planks in the sidewalk and street.
