In this painting I was playing with a metaphor. The chess pieces are placed in a strategic way, although the pawn is falling over. The King, Queen and Castle of the same colour are still standing tall just like the cement grain elevators. What is not in view are any opponents, yet on the sides of this cradled canvas are black and white squares suggesting a game board. On the front view of the painting are squares of colours suggesting the various fields farmers strategical plant and harvest. Like playing chess, many factors come into play while farming.

I work primarily with acrylics, alcohol ink and mixed media. I love to make large spontaneous marks when I begin most paintings. These loose marks suggest routes that I can take with the work. Since I am a tactile learner it is important for me to add layers of texture.
