Moving to Alberta in 2006 I fell in love with the raw visceral beauty of the prairies – in particular the vivid and often dramatic skies. I set about to capture it through 366 daily impressions of the living skies and 12 pieces created in oil on masonite to highlight the uniqueness of a moment that many may consider just part of the quintessential prairie experience.
This painting captures a familiar view to many and probably experienced the same way as me on this trip: with friends and family. Going to Banff, Alberta is always an exciting trip no matter the reason whether it's for a festival like Snow Days, snowboarding, skiing, ice climbing, backcountry camping, you name it. There is something there for everyone.
