About the Artwork

This piece explores the spaces surrounding the objects as much as the objects themselves. I was interested in how the negative shapes could become an active part of the composition, creating relationships between the familiar forms of the vessels and fruit.

I also experimented with different textures and ways of applying paint. Some areas are built with visible brushstrokes, while others are quieter or contain traces of pattern and earlier layers. I wanted these differences in the surface to remain visible rather than bringing everything to the same finish.

The tablescape gives me a structure in which I can shift my attention between object and space. Here, what happens between and around the objects becomes just as important to me as the objects themselves.
