McGuire Lake, Rugosa Rose in March
Instead of focusing on the shapes in a landscape, I decided to explore the spaces between them. What I discovered were forms and patterns of colours. I systematically built layers from cut or torn pieces of paper and canvas, developing built-up surfaces with thick acrylic medium. The result is a painting with unexpected juxtapositions of colour, marks, and shapes. The surface is defined by textures of varying heights. 'The Rugosa Rose In March' is a mixed media painting that presents explorations on paper and canvas with colours and marks.
