About the Artwork

This is a replica Grizzly Bear Pole, on display in Summit Park on Roosevelt Hill in Prince Rupert, BC. It is of Haida design, though it stands on Tsimshian Territory. I feel very fortunate to have taken these photos in a part of BC that sees few clear skies at night-time. My photo reference was taken during the auroral storm of October. 10, 2024, after 2:30 a.m. since the skies had been cloudy prior to then. The challenge in painting the aurora is that the very vivid ones are constantly moving and changing; so photographing them isn't easy.

Every day I experience something in nature that invokes a response: a need to create and express an instance in time. I love the challenge of creating texture, reflection, and light. I'm grateful to live where this is evident in abundance each day.
