About the Artwork

The mediums in this piece are: Letters and photos on paper, drum skin, modelling paste and acrylic.
This is a collage of writings from my friend who wrote children’s books, my great-grandmother’s hand written letters, a drum skin from my broken drum, a photo of a grandchild, and stencil textures that are reminiscent of home decor from the past. This piece is a story about childhood memories, apple muffins, imagination and joy. Pale yellow and blue colours and patterns evoke a feeling of a simpler time when hearts were free. Playing to the beat of your own drum. The heart of course is a main symbolic shape that tie all the elements together with the bright red and pinks throughout the painting. I invite the viewer to think back about their own childhood love story.
