About the Artwork

Recently, I returned to figure drawing sessions, rediscovering the spontaneity of quick gestural sketches. Using mostly charcoal and conte, I try to capture the essence of mood and movement of the models in just a few minutes. I embrace their imperfections - the raw, unrefined quality makes them feel honest.

I cut the figures out of the reams of paper, and they reminded me of paper dolls. I weave them into new narratives by layering them over older abstract paintings, allowing past and present to interact. This process breathes new life into my past work, transforming it into something fresh and unexpected.

My paintings are observations of moments in my life, broken down in colours, texture, shapes, gestures, lines, and text. They invite you in to be curious, and to respond with your own interpretations of what the work is about.

"I paint to escape into my own little world for awhile."
