Arbutus Menziesii is a broad-leaf evergreen tree ranging from Central California to the Pacific Northwest. In British Columbia, this tree can be found on rocky outcrops along the shores of the Sunshine Coast, Gulf Islands, and Vancouver Island. The Arbutus tolerates poor soil, drought conditions, and strong winds. Firmly rooted by an extensive root system and supported by its hard wood, this tree develops a contorted, sculptural form as it adapts to the demands of its environment. Where many trees fail, the Arbutus thrives.
