“The Blue Hour” is about the cycle of renewal and growth. A bird’s nest signals the end of winter dormancy and spring’s arrival. Winter’s debris is repurposed to provide a safe haven for the embryos growing within three fragile eggs. Cool blue tones dominate the picture, depicting the time just before sunrise, also known as the “blue hour.” It is a time of change and becoming.
This image is a reduction woodcut print, which involves cutting away successive areas of a single block after each colour has been printed, resulting in an image composed of multiple coloured layers.
