Painting rusty subjects - from old factories to abandoned vehicles – is a favourite subject of mine. There is a richness to the rust that I find captivating. For me, they are like the wrinkles on a face that give evidence and richness of a life lived.

Carol Loeb, SFCA
Yarker, Ontario
Collectively, Carol’s work is a contrast of the engineered or built environment to the wilderness. She works mainly in acrylics, usually blocking in dark and mid-tone areas first then adding thin layers of saturated colour to create luminosity and depth. The resulting realism goes beyond photographic representation of place.
"To capture these emotive qualities of the subject and have the image go beyond the purely representational, I often use contrasting saturated, complimentary colours to create a vibrancy and emphasis that goes beyond the pretty picture."
