The Niagara Escarpment is a prominent rock ridge which spans a 1,000 mile arc across the Great Lakes region of North America. A product of numerous cataclysmic upheavals which created the sediments for an ancient sea which was then scored over by moving and retreating ice sheets. The stronger limestone boulders that covered the floor below and its cliffs, are now covered with flora of mosses and ferns.

Today, the escarpment is home to many unique plants and animals. The Lynx makes the boreal forest its main habitat, but will also live in the deciduous woodland forests found in this region. They favor forests with dense undercover vegetation and rocky outcrops. Lynx hunt by either stalking their prey or waiting in ambush for hours in the recesses of these great rocks of the escarpment.
