The Ferruginous Hawk is found primarily in the western prairie grasslands of United States and Canada. Its breeding range is in the southern parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Migration patterns will take them to southerly wintering grounds and when returning they sometimes have come through eastern Canada’s Carolinian forests.
This Hawk is returning by way of a diverse flora of a Carolinian forest in Ontario, a unique place, dominated by numerous species of trees. It scans the area as it sits perched atop a rugged tree branch with prey beneath taking in the bright and warm rays of an early spring sun.
