It takes some determination to get there; a long drive up a bumpy dirt road, followed by a canoe ride to the other side of the lake by the waterfall. Then it is a short, steep, muddy, climb, past the cliffy bits and across the heather. It sits in the perfect northeast aspect, deep blue waters sheltered from all wind by the head wall, and it is quiet. It has a stark beauty, this austere Shangri la, but there is nowhere else to go. A few shrubby alpine plants cling to the scree slopes of the bowl, which surround the tarn on three sides. This rocky outcrop , at the lip of the outlet before the river plunges down towards the lower lake, is the only access to this hidden paradise.
