The Nechako River Migratory Bird Sanctuary is located in the portion of the Nechako River that flows through the town of Vanderhoof. The islands situated in the braided river channel attract large numbers of migrating birds, particularly Trumpeter Swans and Canada geese, which use the area to rest and feed in the spring and fall. Parts of the Nechako Bird Sanctuary, have also been recognized as critical habitat for the endangered Nechako River white sturgeon.
Local residents take ownership and pride in these environmental values by creating and maintaining habitat enhancements such as the side channels visible in this painting.
I have always been passionate about wetlands and art and I am proud and happy to combine them in this painting.
