About the Artwork

Live Jury #1 The Old Arts building on the University of Alberta Campus is one of my favourite buildings in Edmonton with it’s neo-classical style, deeply carved acanthus cornice and combination of sandstone and red brick. Built in 1915, it was the most expensive building ever constructed in Edmonton. It is covered with virginia creeper and in the fall the intricate network of scarlet leaves are beguiling. The warm evening sun reflects off of the building opposite and filters through mature trees before painting the façade with dappled light.

Jennifer is a realist painter and has enjoyed a full time art career since 1989. She has a BFA in Art and Design, and is an elected member of the FCA, CSPWC, and AWS. Her preferred mediums are watercolour and charcoal.

"The subject of my work is light, whether painting sweeping historic architecture, remote landscapes or intimate still lifes. My work is based on travelling to explore both urban and wilderness landscapes, experiencing, observing and then portraying how light changes our perception of these environments."
