Forests often feel magical and sacred. The concept behind this painting (of a sketch I made of my daughter cycling on hornby Island) is based on the research of forest ecologists who confirm what indigenous people of North America have known for thousands of years, that there IS magic at work! Trees communicate with one another and form complex societies, and forests are indeed intelligent systems build in sophisticated relationships with all creatures, including humans. Lucky us. Extraordinary and wonderful.

My addiction is to the magical state of direct experience, when the thinking mind leaves me alone, and I am free to discover new possibilities and express the joy and vitality of some aspect of life through painting. I am also inspired to stimulate this in others.
