The flowering almond is one of spring's first blossoming trees. This one grew at the edge of the forest where the light was diminished by the arbutus and fir trees. It struggled, year after year, its dying branches pruned off by the diligent gardener. Thrown on the burn pile, they join the dead lower branches of the fir trees pruned off to give back some light to the almond.
