I went to the Greater Vancouver Zoo to take in the Raptors Show hoping to photograph eagles. There was none in the show even though it was advertised. Afterwards I went up to the trainer and asked why and that it was what I wanted to photograph. She said it had a broken wing and to follow her where she went to its cage and brought it out for me. It was on her gloved hand only a couple metres from me, if that. It perused the crowd around and riveted its gaze at me with my camera. I was spellbound by its intense gaze and will never forget its power.
I decided in doing a portrait closeup of the eagle that the broken wing was a different story. I wanted to feature the eyes and the power of the Lion of the Skies.
