I painted this fishing boat en plein aire on the Beach in Nazere, Portugal this October. It was one of several boats retired on the beach as a historic record.
Later in my hotel room I felt the painting needed more interesting shapes and better attention to the center of interest (the red prow of the boat). So I added the sea gulls. It dramatically improved the painting.
